• Test the TPR valve by lifting the lever to ensure water flows freely.
• Inspect the TPR valve discharge pipe for mineral buildup or leaks.
• Attach a hose to the drain valve and direct it to a safe drain or bucket.
• Open the drain valve and flush two gallons to remove built-up sediment.
• Listen for popping sounds during flushing, indicating heavy sediment.
• Check the anode rod for corrosion or missing sections to prevent rust.
• Examine the tank base and surrounding floor for dampness or rust stains.
• Inspect all water connections and shutoff valves for leaks or deposits.
• Test pressure by briefly opening a hot tap, watching for spurting or trapped air.
• Reset the thermostat to 120°F if set higher to lower pressure and save energy.
